House of 1000 Corpses (Rob Zombie) Movie Review

So probably last week I think? I watched this movie with Lizzy. I've been meaning to watch it for ages now, but with so much crap going on at the same time I found a hard time trying to get enough time to watch it.

The movie starts off slow introducing you to a near-by gas station with a few extra goodies inside of it. It starts off kind of slow with the robers, and keeps the interest growing with what happens with them. Later on a few tourists happen to stop by and the guys want to go on the haunted ride there and learn about Dr. Satan. One of the guys wants to take everyone to see this famous 'tree' near by. The girls are kind of bitchy the entire time one less than the other one. On the way they pick up a hot hitch hiker, who leads them into her house where they meet her family. Who is to say the least, not sane.

So as to not ruin the movie, the rest can get pretty gory and Rob Zombie does a good job keeping the movie "a bit corny" but not too much as to keep the old-style horror movie concept, the soundtrack for this is pretty amazing and has some sweet industrial tracks.

Good Things:

  • Interesting and fucked up plot, there is no other way to describe it.
  • Gore is used well and not over-used
  • Characters are developed enough to have you feel sorry for them, except for one who is kind of a bitch.
  • Reasonably believable, nothing way out there really happens. (Deformed humans do exist)
  • Awesome sound track!
  • Actually keeps your interest after they get into the house, and has a few 'jumpy' moments.
  • Scenario is done well.
  • Characters and costume design is pretty damn good.

Bad things:

  • Although for the begining and the end, the clown teller is not really attached much, and doesn't really tie in the robers, except if it's implied.
  • Slow start
  • The girls who were with the guys are not as developed as the rest of the characters, I kept getting them confused here and there.
  • Not really a bad thing, but the ending was :(

Score: 9/10

If you get a chance, watch it, rent it or something. It's worth it if you are into scary movies. I was expecting Rob Zombie to appear in the movie like Alfred Hitchcock normally does, but alas he did not.

Here is the trailer to get you even more excited
